One of the best highlights of the warm weather in Markham is the start of some great family festivals. On June 3rd and 4th, Markham will be celebrating the 2017 Unionville Festival. In its 48th year, there will be a number of great activities and plus live music, vendors and a race. Located on Main Street in Unionville, the Unionville Festival is one big party! With free admission, this is one family event you’ll want to put on the calendar.
Ride your bike to the event, as there will be a number of bike stands set up for you and Water on Wheels will be available so you can fill up your reusable water bottle.
You’ll want to start at the Village Market, where over 100 vendors will have booths for browsing and shopping. There will be live musicians playing music all along Main Street on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
The Festival parade kicks off at 10 am on Saturday, starting on Library Lane and going south along Main Street. The kids will have so much to do on Saturday, including entering the Krazy Kraft Race, the Rubber Duck Race and checking out the FunZone by the Rinks, which happens all day long.
End the day with music and drinks at the Bavarian Rock ‘n’ Roll Garden beside the Curling Club or head to the Millennium Dance and Music act at the Bandstand, with great local artists like:
· Gadfly hip hop dance
· Markham School of Dance
· Little Pear Garden Co. Chinese dance
· Markham Concert Band
After all of the music is over, there will be a huge fireworks display at Toogood Pond.
Come back again on Sunday early for the Funky 5K run and 2K walk, starting at Carlton & Main Street, or dive into yoga, boot camp, archery, bubble soccer and so much more fitness fun all day at the Millennium Bandstand. In Crosby Park from 11am until 3pm, there will be a Family Fun Day featuring games, crafts, races, balloon rides and so much more!
If all of that isn’t enough, the York-Durham Heritage Railway will have their train running, making return trips to and from Old Unionville train station and Markham Main Street train station. The fare is $10 a person and is a must-do for adults and kids alike. You’ll see the beautifully resorted stations and enjoy the tourist train rides along the Oak Ridges Moraine.
Head down to the Unionville Festival in June – it is definitely a banner event for Markham residents and visitors!
