Many people tend to think that listing your home for sale over the holidays is a waste of time and that it’s best to wait for the spring. Unfortunately, that’s not necessarily true. Here are the top reasons to sell your home over the holidays.
1. Serious Buyers
While it is true that there are typically less active buyers during the holiday season, the ones that are looking for a new home tend to be very serious buyers. People don’t tend to shop for houses in December unless they have to, and so, those that do, don’t mess around.
2. Higher Prices
Since less homeowners tend to list their homes in December, there’s usually a much smaller inventory to choose from. With more serious buyers in the market, that normally translates into higher prices.
3. Holiday Decorations
Most of us enjoy decorating our homes for the holidays and tastefully decorated homes show very well. Holiday lighting, festive wreaths, winter planters and the aroma of freshly baked cookies goes a long way in helping buyers feel welcome in your home.
4. Emotional Buyers
Most buyers can be a little more emotional over the holidays and are less likely to want to haggle over your price.
5. More Time
The holidays are, in fact, a busy time of year for many of us. However, many people tend to take extra vacation time around the holidays and serious buyers will have more time to view homes.
6. Work Transfers
January is traditionally a common month for employees to start new jobs and so many buyers will be in a position where they must buy something before the new year.
7. Timing The Market
Typically, you can sell your home for a strong price over the holidays while inventory is low and benefit from a delayed closing. This would allow you to shop for new homes in the spring, giving you a better selection of homes to choose from. January and February can also be a great time to accomplish this.
