Whether you must move out of your home quickly or you simply want to get a head start, packing up your belongings can be a challenge. This can feel like a tedious and overwhelming process but it doesn’t need to be. To help make the entire packing process a little easier and faster, here are four packing hacks that you need to implement.
1. Keep One Box Until the End
The very last box you pack should be one filled with essentials at your new home. It should include a variety of items such as box openers, extra clothing, towels, soap, etc. By having all your essentials readily available, you don’t have to waste time sorting through dozens of other boxes to find items to help you get through the night.
2. Color-Code Boxes
To help you speed up the unpacking process, you must start clear at the beginning. Assign each room in your house a certain color and label all boxes from that room with that color. This makes it easy when unpacking because you can put all boxes with a certain color in the same room. You can use colored duct tape or even find colored stickers to place on each box. Just be sure to put these stickers on well — and possibly even tape over them — to prevent them from falling off.
3. Use Items You Already Have
Moving supplies can add up quickly and hurt your budget. To help cut down on these costs, use items you already have around your home. For example, instead of packing all of your clothing items into cardboard boxes, use your suitcases. And instead of wrapping up your dishware in paper or packing peanuts, use t-shirts, towels, sheets, etc.
4. Declutter! Declutter! Declutter!
One of the best things you can do before you begin the packing process is to heavily declutter your home. Go through every drawer, cupboard, closet, etc., and get rid of any item that you rarely use, is broken, or you don’t care for anymore. If the item is still in good condition consider donating it or selling it to pay for your remaining packing supplies.
