Moving from another city, province or even country to Markham can be a harrowing process. Relocating requires a lot of adjustment while you find new places to live, work and play in your new community. It is definitely an exciting prospect, especially considering Markham has such great amenities for their residents, with a thriving economy, great schools, amazing shopping and dining and great recreational opportunities. Not to mention the fact that it is a very short drive away from the City of Toronto.
Finding somewhere to live
This could be the easiest part of your transition to Markham, as there are a number of thriving communities for families, singles, couples and retirees. You can choose between an urban centre, a quiet and historical street or even a rural community. Working with a professional real estate agent will be your best bet in finding a home and a street that you love.
Finding a job
There are a number of job opportunities available in Markham, especially in the technology fields. Markham is seen as the high-tech capital of Canada. If you do need to commute to Toronto for work, this can be very easy, especially with the amount of public transportation that resides in Markham now. Before you start your relocation, take a look at government websites, LinkedIn and Markham networking groups to assist you in your search before you get here.
Services
One of the hassles of relocating is finding out where to shop, get your hair done, your car serviced and what restaurants are great. While TripAdvisor can’t always tell you where to go to get a great massage, it can tell you the best restaurants and things to do in the area.
As well, finding out about homeowner services like garbage removal, bylaws and recreation opportunities can be difficult. The City of Markham has a great website that will walk you through everything you need to find in your city.
Social activities
One of the downsides of relocating somewhere is not having friends or family nearby, and it can get quite lonely living in a city where you know no one. Try joining a Meetup group or a social club. Head to one of Markham’s many festivals and you are bound to meet some great members of your community as well.
