When you are staging your home and striving to impress potential buyers, you want the area to instantly impress. Most homebuyers are looking for areas that are large and spacious and when you have a smaller home, this can be a challenge. However, by implementing the following tips into your home staging process, you can create an area buyers will instantly love.
1. Consider the Paint Color
The color of paint in a room can make the space look engaging and welcoming or dark and dreary. Avoid dark and bold colors as they take away from the room and create an overwhelming feeling throughout the space. Instead, aim for neutral colors such as whites, tans, light greys, light blues, and light yellows.
2. Hang a Decorative Mirror
The reflection in a mirror makes an area appear larger. Choose a decorative mirror that is the proper size of the wall. You don’t want mirrors that are too small or they won’t fulfill their purpose. However, also be mindful you don’t choose mirrors that are too large and make a wall appear cluttered.
3. Open the Windows
Natural light creates a more receiving and happier environment. Take down old and thick window treatments and consider light and sheer options. Make sure during your showings that you let in as much natural light as possible and keep all window treatments open so the window is exposed.
4. Keep Décor to a Minimum
While décor can certainly make a house a home, it can also make a room appear cluttered and small. Be mindful of how much décor you place around your living areas. Keep items on shelves, tables, and walls to a minimum. You may even want to remove many large pieces of furniture or unnecessary tables from the room as well.
5. Choose Stripes
If you choose patterns to accent the area, consider vertical stripes. This can make a room look longer than it truly is. In a small area, avoid busy and overwhelming patterns, especially on large pieces of fabric such as rugs or curtains. This can add to the mayhem of the room and make it looks messy and overpowering.
