The weather is warm, the sun is shining and you’re in the mood for some good food and drink on a beautiful patio somewhere in Markham. But, sometimes it is difficult to figure out what restaurants have great patios, maybe because they are at the back of the restaurant or in a courtyard. I’m going to help you out with that! Here are five of the best Markham patios to spend a lovely afternoon or evening on.
You may go for the bruschetta, you may go for the pizza or it might be the scallops, either way this great little place has a magnificent patio! Shaded by the landscaping and umbrellas, you can sit on a bench or in a really comfortable chair. Of course this spot fills up quickly, so you’ll want to go early, no matter what night you go on. Some say it is a little pricey, but the food more than makes up for that, as it is fresh and delicious.
Located right on Main Street in Unionville, Ambiyan’s patio isn’t the only reason while you’ll want to eat here. Traditional Indian food is served at Ambiyan, but in a pub-like atmosphere. People go nuts for their butter chicken linguine and the garlic naan bread. The best time to go is on Thursdays, when the band is playing at the bandstand, as you can hear it from the patio.
Another Main Street one-of-a-kind patio, sit out front of the Old Country Inn while enjoying traditional German and Austrian food. The restaurant is located in a 140-year-old house and just exudes old world charm. Its quaint patio takes on the same look as the exterior with tables for two lined up on the main street, cordoned off by a wrought iron fence. The patio is shady and perfect for those really hot days.
Unionville Arms Pub and Grill
Grab some pub grub and hang out with friends on the shady patio. If you like sunshine on your neck, sit at a table right at the front (the ones at the back get the most shade). The drink menu is extensive and the servers bring them to you fast and easy. Of course, you don’t want to miss the food with menu items like a traditional chicken club or a more adventurous grilled Portobello wrap with goat cheese. The best part about the patio at the Unionville Arms? You can watch sports on the television from it! Enjoy the camaraderie of hanging with others on an outdoor patio while you root for the Jays!
Picture it: lobster tacos, smash salad, mimosas, friends and a beautiful patio in Markham. This could be you. It is easy to be fooled into thinking Smash Kitchen doesn’t have a nice patio because of its location in a Hwy 7 strip plaza. But head on through the restaurant to the back, where you’ll find a small, but quiet patio.
My favourite of the bunch, not only do they have an incredibly large and beautiful patio, they’ve been voted best patio for the last 16 years! Go on Monday and check out their 2-for-1 wing night or go any other time for their huge selection of burgers, pizzas and tacos and wraps. Kids are welcome too and there are 8 kids meals for them choose from.
