5 Characteristics of a Really Great Real Estate Agent

September 12, 2017 By Martin MacFarlane Leave a Comment

If you are looking to hire a Markham real estate agent, but haven’t bought or sold a home before, you may not know what exactly to look for. It can be easy to be fooled by marketing schemes that promise you a quick sale, sold over asking or to find you your dream home quickly, but what does it really take to be an amazing real estate agent in Markham?

1.       Superb listening skills

The first characteristic in the best real estate agents in Markham is someone who listens to your wants and needs. You have a goal, whether you are buying or selling Markham property and you want your agent to know what that goal is and get it for you. The only way they can even attempt this is to listen to you. The best agents can even read between the lines for those people who don’t know exactly what they want. For example, if you tell your agent that you have five kids and love to spend time outdoors, they should automatically be searching family-friendly neighbourhoods in Markham with easy access to trails and parks.

2.       Connected

While every agent, new or experienced has their perks, a well-connected agent is really going to help most buyers and sellers. With a large network of connections, your agent can help you not just buy or sell your home by marketing it to the other agents they know, they can also help you get a mortgage, get an appraiser, get an inspector and so much more. With a wealth of connections, successful agents will be able to help you get through the home selling process much easier.

3.       A great hustler

Negotiations are a huge part of the home buying or selling process and you need an agent who can hustle a deal, in the friendliest of ways. In order to keep your money in your wallet, your agent can’t be afraid to make deals, ask for more and basically get you what you need.

4.       Hardworking and self-motivated

Not all agents are as hardworking as others. The most successful agents work all hours of the week, are available to be open to your schedule and are motivated to make money and help you save money. As a buyer or seller, you want to look for an agent with a professional website, up-to-date social media and an updated blog that showcases their knowledge.

5.       Problem solving mindset

Let’s face it, problems prop up when we are talking about transactions worth hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. You need an agent who is able to solve these problems, keep calm under pressure and get you through this stressful time without even breaking a sweat.

I am one of Markham’s top agents, and not just that, I’ve been a resident for over 30 years. Let me know if you need help buying or selling a home in Markham.
